Electronic Structure and Spin Transport in CeMnNi4

Gour Prasad Das (Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, India)

CeMnNi4 is a soft ferromagnet with a relatively large magnetic moment, a relatively high Tc and a large transport spin-polarization (~66%), as determined by point-contact Andreev reflection technique. First-principles density functional (DFT) investigation reveal the effect of inclusion of coulomb correlation on the structural as well as magnetic properties. A general method has been developed for determining and analyzing the transport spin-polarization in ferromagnets, starting from DFT band structure. In this talk I shall discuss some of our recent results on this interesting intermetallic, along with its application in spintronics.
